About Rebecca

I am a professional and dedicated tutor and educational consultant with a masters degree in Education with English and Drama from the University of Cambridge. I work with students and individuals to help them achieve at school, university and in their chosen career paths. I combine a creative understanding of learning with academic rigour to draw out the skills that exist within each individual. I have worked with students doing 11+ and those taking GCSE and A level exams in schools including St Pauls, Eton College, South Hampstead, UCS, Highgate, Habs’, Merchant Taylor’s and Channing.

l’ve worked with clients who want help with job applications and extended report writing in office environments. In my final year of university I specialised in Political Philosophy, Existential and Gestalt Psychotherapy within educational praxis. I have worked as playwright with the Royal Court Theatre and have run mentoring programs for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Tower Hamlets.

My wider consultancy experience includes working with individuals in business who have required assistance with organisation and written communication as well as helping students at top Universities including Cambridge, LSE and Edinburgh with their academic studies.

Why work with Rebecca

With my background in the psychology of student motivation and my ability to link the academic to the practical and creative, I provide a personal and bespoke service that is informed by educational praxis and focused on what works for an individual. From my training and my experience I’ve understood how all of us learn differently.

Some people are kinaesthetic learners, while others may be visual learners (the list is extensive and interlinked) but this knowledge is not well publicised. A classroom teacher can only employ one learning strategy at each given moment and this approach will not work for all students. Meanwhile as adults, we inherit what we learnt and often doggedly apply the same processes to our work without understanding why we continue to find certain ‘adult’ tasks such as writing a covering letter so challenging.

My training and experience has allowed me to pinpoint exactly why different techniques work for different learners, allowing me to take a rigorous and specific approach when working with you or your child. I believe that we can achieve our potential in our schooling and our careers but often we need skilled and focused support from someone who is sensitive to our learning processes and will implement constructive strategies.

I believe people work and learn best with a mixture of structure, independence, encouragement and expectation. No one works well when they feel inadequate or equally when not much is expected of them. Please take a look at my testimonials page to see how I balance these objectives with my students and clients.
